7 advice for university students. A must read

7 advice for university students as they return to campus starting today:

#1- If you were able to work during the strike, you gained valuable experience. Make sure you build on it. Stay curious. Maintain your personal growth. Maintain contact with those you worked with. Learn about what’s going on outside. You’ve experienced the real world of work. Allow it to motivate you to do well in school and to whet your appetite for more.

#2- Some of you have been retained for the time being by the companies or businesses that hired you, in the hope that you can combine school and work. Hmmm. Make certain that you are not setting yourself up for failure. If you don’t have the energy of a bull, the speed of a cheetah, the strength of an elephant, and the flexibility of a monkey, don’t bite more than you can chew.

#3- As much as tech or office money is sweet, don’t forget that you still need to finish well in school. Don’t get carried away. Maintain your grades by working hard. You must find a way to achieve that delicate balance between making money and making good grades.

#4 – If you did not get retained and you are worried that you may not make as much money as you made at home, look around you and see what you can sell. The lowest hanging fruit would be your knowledge and skills you acquired during the strike. It’s a good place to start, and who knows, you might hit gold while at it.

#5 – Don’t let the success and the money you have made during the strike get into your head as you resume back to campus with your peers. You will be tempted to flex, but it’s advisable to stay level-headed, hungry, and focused on the big picture. Get a mentor, if you don’t already have one.

#6 – If you were unable to work or gain any tangible skills during the strike, there is still time to make things right. As you focus on your books, get close to those who have developed skills and work experience. Learn from them; their networking skills, research abilities, their hunger, their habits, etc. Allow them to mentor or motivate you for when you graduate and need to find a real job.

# 7- Some of those who have school lovers have not seen their partners since the strike started. It’s expected that emotions might fly high, but you don’t know what the other person has been up to. So, biko protect yourself! STDs are flying everywhere now. Make dem no give you resumption gift wey no you go like.
