In the recent weeks, they’ve been scarcity of petrol, in Lagos and Abuja. Which as led to inflation of petrol prices and heavy queues at petrol stations, in these two aforementioned prominent states.
What influenced petrol Scarcity in Abuja?
Flood; unarguably Nigeria is currently experiencing a terrible natural disaster—flood– at if not all of her states. This flood is not only sweeping away homes, farm crops, and humans but has also congested major roads for transporting petrol.
A gridlock in lokoja and kogi main roads also a failed road section around Badegei-Agaie in Niger state has all slowed petrol tankers and truck movements to Abuja.
Lots of Abuja petrol stations are expecting their tankers. Which has resulted to fuel scarcity in the federal territory and ofcourse inflation on prices of remaining petrols in Abuja since it has a higher demand.
What influenced petrol scarcity in Lagos?
Unsteady supply to the depots; it’s been gathered from the National Operation Controller of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Mr Mike Osatuyi
that lots of petrol stations in Lagos has not been steadily receiving products like before. This as made them inflate the price of petrol they still have or they could get, and some decided to hoard it.
Mr Mike added that “The situation has culminated in higher prices at depots. Our members who find it difficult to get the product pay between N175-185 per litre. Consequently we are compelled to sell at higher prices to cover cost”
