International Operations leads on the delivery of safe, secure, and compliant operations by providing the infrastructure and production facilities for BBC News globally. We help our editorial teams develop interesting content and expand our audience on a worldwide scale.

BBC’s core business is international news. In 74 news bureaus worldwide, the BBC News Group employs about 2,000 people. It offers 24/7 multimedia services in English and more than 42 other languages to a global weekly audience of over 489 million people. Bureaus respond to breaking news, offer news analysis and updates, and produce live programming and online output.

International Operations team supports all News Group international bureaux. They manage all the office budgets, oversee international projects, and provide a single interface with Technology, Finance, HR, and the BBC’s other professional service teams and experts.

We are recruiting an Operations Engineer who will report to the Executive Bureau Manager and will help with technical operations and affairs in the BBC Lagos Bureau.

Role Responsibility

The position is a part of a shift-working team that offers stakeholder communication, incident management, and 24 hour operational support for a number of BBC platforms and services. Working with language services will involve you in a variety of broadcast and production tasks. You will make sure that all computers, laptops, and printers are fully functional. Additionally, you will communicate with Engineering Operations about server problems, internet connectivity, and other general Bureau issues while logging and managing incidents in a working environment.

Are you the right candidate?

Broad technical knowledge, including understanding of complex systems built from separate components.
Experience of operating within, or demonstrable knowledge of, multi-platform environments.
Experience or knowledge of monitoring and interacting with a range of applications and services.
Experience in supporting a wide range of broadcast and production technologies, systems and equipment.
Experience of logging and managing incidents in an operational environment.
Familiarity with using a range of diagnostic and monitoring tools.
Ability to communicate effectively with external providers and internal partners.
Troubleshooting and diagnosing defects in complex systems.
Able to create supporting documentation.
Able to prioritise according to service impact and work under pressure.
Awareness of current safety legislation and statutory requirements relating to IT including Electricity at Work
