Early Life and Education

In the Mathira Constituency of Nyeri County’s Hiriga Village, Rigathi Gachagua was born in 1965. He was the eighth child born into the family of Mrs. Martha Kirigo and Mr. Nashashon Gachagua Reriani. His parents were Mount Kenya Forest Mau Mau rebels.

From 1971 to 1977, he attended Kabiruini Primary School before transferring to Kianyaga High School to complete his O- and A-levels.

Between 1985 until 1988, Gachagua studied political science and literature for her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Nairobi. The Nyeri District University Students Association (Ndusa) leader position was held by him. While attending the University of Nairobi, he served as the association’s chairman.

Career

Gachagua spent a brief time working for Kenya’s Ministry of Home Affairs and National Heritage before joining the Administration Police Institute in 1990. After graduating from the Administration Police Institute between 1991 and 1992 as a District Officer Cadet, he was sent to the office of the then-president Daniel Arap Moi.

In the districts of Kakamega, Ng’arua, and Laikipia, he further worked as a district officer. Between 1999 and 2000, he attended the Kenya School of Government, where he earned an advanced diploma in public administration. He served as the fourth President of the Republic of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta’s, personal assistant from 2001 until 2006. Between 2007 and 2017, Gachagua managed businesses while remaining unnoticed.

Personal Life

In 1989, Gachagua wed Pastoress Dorcas Wanjiku Gachagua. When former President Daniel Arap Moi paid a visit to the University of Nairobi, they crossed paths. Kevin, an engineer, and Keith, a doctor, are their two boys.

Net Worth

Rigathi Gachagua declared his net worth during the deputy president debate and it was estimated to be $Sh800 million ($7 million).
