Why was Peter Obi Impeached From Office? Read ThisPeter Gregory Obi; a member of Labour Party (LP), and one of the eligible presidential candidate for Nigeria election, scheduled to hold in 2023, had sometimes being impeached from governor office in 2006.

Recalling that, Obi was a former governor of Anambra state. He emerged winner in the gubernatorial election held in Anambra in 2006.

Then, 7 months after he assumed office in March 2006. He was impeached in the house of assembly at Anambra state. Obi, then took the situation to court, saying all he did, was that, he stopped a request to unnecessarily inflate a yearly budget.

Then the court overturned the impeachment, he returned to office in 2007 and completed his 4years tenure. Afterwards, in 2010 he won re-election; defeated Chris Ngige, back into the office, and reigned for another 4years.

However, years, after the impeachment scenero. More explanatory reasons that influenced the impeachment began to unveil to the public.

One of the major unveiling, was eleven years after the impeachment. When Mr Peter Obi guested a program at the Nigeria Symposium for Young and Emerging Leaders which took place in Lagos; sometimes around 2017, with the theme ‘Open Governance: Improving Transparency and Accountability in Government’

Obi said, “I was impeached in Anambra State, removed from office twice, the first one is because of this budget issue.

“They want to repair Office of the Governor, which is my office, the approved budget for 2006 was N298 million, I repaired everything with N43.2 million. They said I didn’t do it through due process, because they have awarded the contract.

“The second item was repair of the Governor’s Lodge, which is where I live, everything was N486 million, I did everything with N81 million, they said it didn’t go through due process. That is to show you how government works, they input so many roadblocks.”

Moving forward. On the 27th may in 2018. In the spirit of commemorating the 3rd anniversary of his presidency, President Muhammad Buhari, published an article through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and publicity, Garba Shehu.

It was stated on the article; in a part regarding to the impeachment scenero, that, the ex anambra governor, Obi was never guilty of the impeachment, and that Obi is one of the governors that suffered injustice in their office.
