LisaWizkid vs Asake: An unecessary comparism.
Weeks after YBNL’S youngest recruit star- Asake (pka Mr. Money) dropped his debut album – Mr. Money with the vibes, His name has been topping charts of all music platforms within and outside the country. The project which was produced by Magix led a lot to a lot of controversies which one of them is claims by some fans that Mr. Money will not continue burning this hard if he parts ways with the exceptional producer. This argument holds enough water because while a handful of artists in the industry have taken that path of using a solo producer for a long time, only few have remained in track after jumping to another producer. Simi, Brymo, AQ, and others are part of that few numbers who have remained in the light. This shows the level of their proficiency in what they do. Now, the question is “Will Asake still be relevant if he’s done with Magix?”
Anyway, that’s not the point of all these. Mr. Money with the Vibes having stayed comfortably in charts for a while with no thought of moving an inch is suddenly thrown off by Wizkid’s just released single – Bad to me, which is his second attempt on the amapiano sound. The song has raise slots if contoversises as fans of an opposing “party” claim that the song was a total flop and does not stand a chance to be relevant. Despite the level of uproar that this song has caused, the “penta-award” winner at the just concluded Headies awards as usual, has not commented on it.
On side of relevance, certain persons have also placed Asake and Wizkid on the same table, spiting the former that his songs cannot stand the test of time looking at how “Bad to Me” knocked off a whole album off the charts. It should be noted that Wizkid and Asake aren’t on the same page. Wizkid is an artist that has stayed top of his game for past twelve years after his emergance in 2011 with the Omotoshun track. Anything that drops from him will definitely be a hit because of the fan base he has built over the years. Asake, a young budding artist, who is penetrating his way into the industry with his pattern of music is now placed with him? It’s just like comparing Messi to Mbappe.
After the release of Made in Lagos, in a review I wrote, I mentioned that one of the reasons the album would fly is because of the “Wizkid” tag to it. The sensational singer, Asa, featured Wizkid in her track, IDG off her ‘V’ album and the track was one of the most prompted songs, if not the most promoted song on that project. That’s the Wizkid effect. Asake is barely a two years old in the industry and he’s gaining the spotlight. Placing him on the same scale with Wizkid is being sentimental and not right. What happened to comparing Asake to Zino? Both whom are both fast budding and also in the same line of music. Let’s not forget that Wizkid comes with an element of quality lyrics while Asake gives us the groove our heads nod to.
